More people should post their stuff up there.
It makes it easier to find, plus you can post pictures and write as much flavour text as you want.

Ideally, a section in which there would be an entire page per mod would be nice, because then you have room to say exactly what your mod is meant to be.

But in any case, taking a look at the amount of mods on the wiki so I could make a list of them, I only found six.
Nobody really bothers reading more than the first page of the forum, just think about what we're losing 0:

IIRC only images may be uploaded to the wiki.

You can't upload files to the message board either.
You can link to filefront to both of them.
