Dwarves are like ants

They remind me alot about ants. They have no leader to boss them around (at least not in the start), they just know what needs to be done. And they're incredibly dumb as individuals. SO if you think about it, you are "The Hive", an overintelligence.

But ants don't need alcohol to get through the working day.. and they have a much, much more practical breeding system.

Or put some dwarfcloths next to your cat/dog and see the stream of antscough dwarfs walk there.

Heh, I was just thinking yesterday about a Dwarf Fortress that was more like an ant colony.  You'd have the scouting dwarves that went out to spot things, the hauling ants, the nursery ants, they'd dig their own tunnels if you let them and when they needed to, soldier ants, farming ants.  It'd be a good AI experiment too.

I thought the same thing about SimAnt too... and apparently Toady and ThreeToe used to play it a lot...
