Inedible seeds.
« on: May 30, 2008, 01:39:00 pm »

Is there anyway to mod Plump helmet spawn to be inedible raw? My dwarves keep running out of food because they eat the seeds first and are unable to grow more food.

Huh? Dwarves don't eat seeds unless the seeds are cooked. You don't need to cook food. Cooking raw plump helmets destroys the seeds, so if you want to get seeds out of your crops, you need to brew or eat them raw. In the future, check the wiki  before posting here, and remember that wikis take a little effort to get through. Anyway, welcome to the forum!

OK, that's my good deed for the day, next guy's getting flamed.

Hmm, Thats strange. I could have sworn they were being eaten. I guess that must have been the cooking.
No more plump helmet biscuits.

And I DID check the wiki. Don't assume things.

Most seeds need cooked, plump helmets are the exception. Type "z" and then use the --> arrow key to go to the kitchen tab and change it - you can tell them not to cook the seeds, though they may still /eat/ them. This will cut down on it drastically in any case. Alternatively, try moving the seeds (in general) far away from your food stockpiles, which should be closer to where your dwarves hang out; DF's pathfinding is very, very brute force primitive and you won't see them doing anything other then going to whatever is the fewest raw steps away.

Plump helmets are so wonderful they almost count as a cheat to use.
