I recently too deeped a fortress, and, for the first time I saved a planet map, opened it up, and noticed a nice portion of the planet is covered in red stuff... visiting it in adventure mode, I noticed that all the trees are burnt up in these areas... i think this was a large number of volcanos. In my fortress, I tampered with magma quite a bit, flooded the local area with it once, and released the demon. Is one of these that caused the planetary volcanic cataclysm? If so, I can't help but laugh about the forest retreats that got roasted.

it might have been that way to start with.  did you export a map before you started the fortress, to compare from?

i deeped a fort after using magma defenses, and the area around it was not burnt or chaged at all.

Most of the lava is near the middle of the map.

I do have an original map, which has no lava on it at all. Strangely, none of hte lava seems to be around my old fort.

Trees change with the seasons; that might be it.

Maybe, but the trees had the same tile as cacti when using adventuer mode, so i thought they were just burned..... well I guess it was winter, so that might explain it actually.

Also: can't evil areas be red n dark grey as well?

I thought about that, but evil areas generally dont show up as big pools of nothing but red.
