So I just killed a giant cave spider...
« on: December 01, 2007, 01:01:00 am »

With a brand new adventurer, in his second fight...

Payback for all those that got slaughtered. Chopped off its lower body while my drunk took the damage.

Felt too happy not to post.    :)

EDIT: Any way to harvest it's silk?

And apparently theres another one.

They're actually lightweights if you hang back and toss arrows at them. Break or mangle a few limbs and they're fairly useless. Get close and their web misses you.

I took out 3 in a row once then the 4th one turned me into a torso with a head attached. They seem to live in groups.

I just bumped into two at the same time while I was with a crippled lasher who lost his whip. He turned into a wrestler part way through the battle.

He isn't anymore.

I had lost my spear in a cave spider somewhere so had to use a bow luckily masterwork but I only have dabbling sword and archery skill.

I took the first one out with some arrows one shot right through the abdomen. He didn't even see me. But then my lasher ran up to me and got spotted by another one he only lasted a couple turns and my two arrows were leg shots  :)

I pierced one's heart, then it bit me and injected me with poison. It took a few more nips then it died of blood loss, but a ratman or iron man or some damn thing came by and mangled me while I was paralyzed. By the time the venom wore off, I was too badly hurt to escape or kill the thing.  :(

Just killed two in a row. All of my previous adventurers(5) had been lost to cave spiders... Didnt even get hurt!

EDIT: I'm a 7 in a row. All in melee.

What weapon do you use?

EDIT: I just managed to kill 2 cave spiders! 1 had recently slaughtered my previous adventurer and was wounded, but the other one was 'fresh'

I use an axe.

Abdomen or celaphothorax shots are instant win. Either he gets sick or has trouble breathing, either he gets cleaved in two from ''crown to chin'' or simply has his abdomen seperated, or guts shooting, etc.

Once theyre damaged there usually they pretty much stop attacking and lose alot of precision when they do.

Something in that comment reminds me of Shelob.

Well, apart from the whole "giant web-shooting paralyzis-causing spidery creature" thing of the giant cave spiders.

How they turn very helpless when sufficiently wounded.

>_>

I'm gonna mod in hobbits, call one Sam Gamgee, and try to take one spidey on.  :)

Good. Just mod in phials and go in with one and a *gold ring*.

Somehow all my hobbits die to giants or ettins.

I must have some wrong breed of hobbit....

None of them has even seen a single cave spider yet!

Perhaps some phials are really in order...  because other than that, and perhaps an artifact dagger, my hobbits are very much the same - even with grower and herbalist skills.

Nay, I do not kid.

Too bad the weapons corresponding to their skills do not spawn, and I have to search for them... I'd have rake'd those damn giants. I can take them at embark though.  :p
