long life = long load time?
« on: March 18, 2008, 03:01:00 am »

So I've been playing the same adventurer for about the past week or so and, anymore, whenever I try and un-retire him, it takes me a good 20 or 30 minutes to load back into the world.  Typically an adventurer only takes about 30 seconds to load, but this one guy takes ages.

Is that pretty much par for a long lived adventurer, or am I just having bad luck?  Perhaps something went sour with the world, npc's, or items?

The world is small too; not a pocket world, a 33x33.

Maybe the game takes a looong time to load all the territory he's uncovered (the "fog of war" he's cleared, if you will)?

perhaps, but, it loads me in the local view of a tavern, not the world map, so there's nothing to view

also i've noticed that, perhaps my adventurer has a bad memory, but, i often times have to re-uncover areas of the map.  i doubt it's related, i think my guy was just brain damaged after taking a bolt in the face =P

You mean he's not braindamaged otherwise?

had it been a HUMAN adventurer, not a dwarven one, i would say he was brain damaged by default, aye, but not this one, he started out a nice kid ... it was the bolt sullied his mind, for sure.

I just checked and he'd been alive for 3 game years =o  easily my longest, i had no idea that long had passed.  wow.

That's crazy!

My longest guy lasted two real life days, I don't know how long in-game.  He got shot in the head.

That's incredibly impressive. He must have had some legendary encounters during that time.

aye, indeed, lots of good fights =)  still going, ran out of goblin forts though so i'm chasm hunting now.  i did all the quests in all the towns and for the humans dwarves and elves, but it's only a 33x33 world so that was only about 30 or so.  did get to fight a titan and a hydra though, thankfully before i lost an eye, because i had to use throwing to kill them, and now, since the left eye is gone, i can't hit shit.  when i throw something, half the time it throws in the opposite direction i aimed it, heh.  pretty hilarious, but it let me get some skills up in other fields so i'm cool with it now.

Whoa, 30? How did you manage to complete all of those cave-based quests? One of those can take days. =)
