and for now, it's your precious, precious anvil.  don't let it disappear, though you can use it to make another one.

Kind of silly to make the only tool that allows making metal tools is made out of metal.

It's a difficult, difficult life.  Losing your pick in a cave-in or flood can also be traumatic.  The poor dwarves should just go live in the woods with the elves.

Yes. Anvils. When you get it, how the *heck* do you get it to your Fortress? In my game, it just sits there and sits there...

I think they'll put it in a furniture pile.  Or you can incorporate it directly into a metalsmith's forge (or whatever that building is called).

Normally the metalsmith delivering it will drop it in a furniture pile - if you've not got one of those assigned it may well get left somewhere.

etter than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick which has been dipped in sulphuric acid and had razor blades inserted into it. Probably.

I believe I did have a furniture pile at the time... hm. I didn't have a bridge, though. And I had like 10 stone blocks and when I tried to build a metalsmith's workshop, it just told me I needed stone blocks and an anvil. Oh, well. All my dwarves started having constant combat interruptions no matter where they were anyway, so I abandoned the settlement. New settlement tonight!

hopefully I can get those annoying combat notices to go away within a few days...  it's a fairly new thing, and it's cheapening the experience!  tawdry!
