this is the worst workaround for a bug that has ever existed and if you see this putnam will give you a cookie"

Has the cookie been delivered yet?

One must not make empty promises like that.

Blue Dwarf has been happy lately. He did some !!science!! recently. He admired a fine forum post lately. He was enraged by a forum troll recently. He was upset by the delayed release of the new version of Dwarf Fortress lately. He took joy in planning a noble's death recently.

op admitted it wasn't in the errorlog, but in the stringdump, so I don't think it's a valid claim to begin with

Putnam told me to tell you that your cookie is in the stockpile next to that bridge over there.

I just tracked down the code which logs that message in a v50.14 disassembly, and all I can say is that it must've been put there to avoid a compiler bug of some sort - it's in the middle of the logic that generates mid-level map terrain information (in what looks like the logic that determines the exact paths of rivers), and it seems to check if the size of the global Units vector is negative (that, or greater than ~9.22 quintillion) which is completely impossible.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

It's not fair to claim the cookie unless you actually saw it in an errorlog in an unmodified environment. I've known about the "cookie" for well over a year now and even why it's there (largely because I've had at least one private chat with Putnam about it), but you don't see me claiming it just because it's visible in the string dump....

I'm actually kinda surprised it took this long for someone to post about it.

Thus, the cookie still awaits the brave soul that shall manage to produce the impossible error and claim it as his own.
