I was wondering where to post a thread about this rather ancient game, so I guess I'll put it here.





Hawks European Warfare is a rather ancient mod for an old Cossacks spin off called American Conquest. The mod is mainly focused on historical battles such as Borodino, Austerlitz, etc., where players can fight to the death with their historically matched armies, a few examples can be found here:

I came upon this game randomly when one of the videos popped up in my feed, and it has been extremely enjoyable. The old group of players that used to play this game have largely disappeared over the last 10 years, but a couple of veteran players were keeping it alive, and now it is experiencing a revival in interest.

Haven't played the mods but the original games are great. Both Cossacks and American Conquest.

I am rather new to these games myself, comparatively speaking. Ths mod and the civil war one takes advantage of the morale mechanics in the AC games, to make more dynamic battlefields for multiplayer matches. Its quite fun.

Aside from hosting the images on your own server or on the paid cloud? Nah, just gotta hope that whatever site you use doesn't go under. The impermanence of stuff on the internet really sucks honestly, the day Imgur goes down or starts deleting old images is going to really suck.

I was trying a version I have in singleplayer, I think it was number 3. It's like Age of Empires with a much higher unit count. I've only done some campaign scenarios so far, so I don't know if the singleplayer computer player responds better at higher difficulty or if it cheats by having better resource or production or stats or such.

Hey. Unfortunately for the pre made maps, the AI actually does not exist, its simply a few pre set moves made by the coders to give the illusion of A.I.   However, the creator of the mod has recently come back from the dead, and is working on a new version with AI for the random maps (and hopefully the pre-made maps, including the ones used for multiplayer matches):

He gave me a few A.I's to test out, but I have been rather busy recently. if you would like me to give the A.I packets to you though, I can do so.

I don't have it installed right now. I will say that it would be a good platform for fixing up of the AI. For a game of the genre it has a very high unit limit. It handles a lot of player units well enough in the single player I did with the unmodded frmations, does it perform well with a lot of units under the new ai's control?

Its currently in the works by the mod creator, Gex, who is fixing the AI for random maps (maps that are standard Cossacks fare), and is also attempting to make the AI workable for pre-made maps, but it's being slowed down somewhat by Stonewalls unofficial patch's mechanics also being incorporated into the new official patch (mainly changes in the morale system).
