Why can't i find anything in adventure mode?

anything at all? this sort of thing needs to be toned down a bit.

I think the issue is more with, once you've talked up the locals and they've pointed out the general location of the kobold cave, actually finding the damn thing. Whenever I try, I end up wandering around for ages and never finding it.

Once you get a quest and go to that area, press I believe "Q" then "z"?  Basically you want to pull up your map/quests book then zoom in on the region.  It will give you a much more precise area to find the cave, etc.

I agree that it does need work, but there is also a little help built in you might be missing.

A few times I got a quest to kill something in a cave. Although I go to the map square where the cave is supposed to be and cant find the V entrance...

Yes, this often happens. I can only advise to search all 9 highlighted squares.

It's not as hard as you make it sound, you just need to learn all of the keys, such as "Q".

Adventure mode has barely received attention from the developer. It will need several secondary features before an adventurer will be able to feel "at home" in the wilderness.

For example, roads and paths in sites. A town without roads is pretty bad as is, but even a cave without paths leading to it (normally there would be a trampled path from all the creatures going in and out) is proving to be a problem.
