Demon resident. Cloth size?
« on: February 02, 2024, 10:40:49 am »

Hello. My fortress is so awesome, that some demon ran away from his necromancer master and asked for residency (to kill monsters).
I decided that he can be useful.
But I have a question what size of armor is he wearing? Is he actually better than dwarf in fighting compared equal skills?
He is small three-eyed humanoid.

As usual I feel I have the gist of it rather than the exact details, so a shaker of sodium chloride kept on hand is advised.

Proper demons come in two varieties, unique and non-unique. Unique are the ones what lead goblin civilizations. Non-unique are the regular mob of trash you'd find when you gate crash the "circus". Regarding armor, they're huge. Regarding skills, an equally skilled dwarf usually will lose to an equally skilled demon due to various special abilities the demons have. Incidentally, while a demon's fighting skills are always good, dwarven soldiers who have been training for many years should greatly outmatch them skill-wise.

Meanwhile, necromancers. These guys can create various creatures: unintelligent or intelligent undead, and experiments.

In spite of the name I don't think what you have on hand is a proper demon. It's a necromancer experiment. They are highly variable in form, size, and composition. You said it is "small", which suggests dwarf/elf sized armor. I could be wrong though and small in this case means smaller than a dwarf. Anyway, as far as fighting goes, tied in with their own special abilities an experiment would be a durable opponent, but they are not on par with real demons.

Also, you should be able to look at it and see what it's wearing. Fair warning, it might just be bare assed naked with no armor at all. Squint a little to blur things up a bit before you look.

I don't think losing guts actually kills you, you just throw up and pass out and bleed to death.
This was supposed to be a cool upgrade. All I got was more hostile zombies.

To add to FourierSeries post, if they have clothing, the clothing description will say "sized for ...". But, you still might not have the option to choose that body type in the forge's job details.

There is/was a way to determine the actual cm3 size of a specific creature using DT, and there might be a way to see it in dfhack EDIT (: here in this thread you can see how dfhack can show it), that will get at least an ill-fitting set of armor for them, but in the end, they may not be able to wear any armor just because they're not on the list allowing them too.

EDIT: fixed link

But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

anewaname, I think your link is broken.

For v0.47, dfhack has Alt+I keybinding that shows a selected creature's individual size.  But I think it doesn't work in v0.50, and anyway for clothes you'll want species size (which may differ by a factor of as much as 2x), so yes, gui/gm-editor is the best way (select "race" -> press i -> look for "adultsize").  Since it's evidently smaller than a dwarf, there's probably an animal person that's close enough.

Check your existing size options, you might just get lucky. My current fort in 47.05 lists several "demons of X" and "soldiers/warriors of Y" under the size options for clothing and armor.
