I'd really like if DF would have minecraft-like pistons (in both regular and sticky varieties), of course linked with the DF mechanism system. Imagine all the crazy traps you could make. Stuff like crush traps, bridge-less airlocks that can let the enemies in, but not out, and so on.

Improved Mechanics
  • Moving fortress sections (lifts, crushing traps, etc.)

So is your suggestion just that when bay 12 gets around to implementing moving fortress sections, it should work how minecraft works?

Personally I think it would be more interesting to have a more "realistic" implementation where you have more than one kind of mechanism doing these things. Pulleys, joints, blocks moving on minecart tracks maybe. Minecraft's specific implementation can wind up looking strange with how pistons move pistons and such.
