Empty glowing pits
« on: September 22, 2023, 12:35:32 am »

This is a bit of an odd question, but I always wanted to see the old glowing pits of the old clown era, before procedurally generated creatures were a thing. I tried to boot up several different version of Df v0.28, but to my surprise, they were all completely empty when I found them. They would be there, engravings in all, but they contained no demons, no mud piles, no cages, no prisoners, nothing. I tried this across multiple different embarks, but they were always empty, being equally devoid of items and creatures. To any veterans who might come across this: is this normal?

If you're so sure that you're gonna end up killing all of dwarven civilization, why not make a statue depicting 2147483647 dead dwarves, all of which are burning? Name it something good, like Deaddead the Dead Dead Dead-Dead of Dying. Just put it in the main hall or something, as a grim reminder that they're all gonna die.

Maybe check the layers above there:
There can be a few levels of "glowing pit" which are only open space without rooms, engravings, occupants, or any adamantine on the levels below the lowest chamber with engravings and cages. This means that miners on the lowest two levels (at least) can break directly into the pit without having the faintest idea that adamantine is present beforehand.

Ironblood didn't use an axe because he needed it. He used it to be kind. And right now he wasn't being kind.

I used the reveal tool to spot them, since it would take ages to find them manually. You know, maybe that’s the problem?

That was indeed the problem. I mined to them without the reveal tool and they were filled with stuff.
