Why are there demons in ore pockets in steam release?
« on: December 20, 2023, 11:39:58 pm »

I find it very weird, as it makes it far too challenging in the early game when I'm trying to mine ore to make gear for a military.

Why did Tarn include this in the steam release?

I found a demon in an ore pocket in the very first cave layer.

I think he wanted to "gameify" then "endgame".  The spires are normally quite low, but some RNG situations have them reaching up quite high (and can even breach the surface!)  I think it's mostly considered a bug that you can run into them that early.

Also, this whole thread is technically a spoiler, so you might want to edit the subject if you can.

There are no demons in ore pockets. If you see a 3x3 obsidian pillar with gems in it, that's decidedly not an ore pocket.

It's not a bug that you can find the 3x3 pillars that early.

Just to put it in perspective there has almost always been unfortunate ways to come into contact with creatures that could easily kill all the dwarves very quickly. On the top of my head Ive had giant cave spiders pop up on layer 1 because of passages leading from layer 2 to 1.
