Can dwarves join a religion group?
« on: January 17, 2023, 06:39:43 pm »

Most of my starting dwarves worshipped Pethit, but no organised religon to Pethit was present.
My fort only had 3 organised religions, dedicated to a less popular deity, one with 4 members and two with 1 member.

Now out of my 21 dwarves, suddenly 10 dwarves, including most of my starting dwarf Pethit worshippers worship The Doctrines of Cavorting, a Pethit religion.
I noticed because the game threw me a priest and temple petition alert.

I did just get a single immigrant, he is also one of the members. Can a single immigrant convert half the fortress when he has just arrived?

If not I just witnessed a new religion forming in fortress mode

That's pretty cool.  Did the single immigrant have any special skills, like high social skills?

Is that a new religion or one that's been around a long time before your fortress existed?

I don't know.
How can I get to legends mode without losing the saves? Does retiring kill all autosaves, or just the active save?

Safest way is to back up the Save folder. Not sure if the new "save to another timeline" stuff is really working right now.

Just copy the folder someplace else, retire, check Legends, then copy the folder back in when you're done.

(Autosaves seem to remain intact)

The religion was founded 240 years ago.

So this means that a single immigrant spread the religion to 9 other fortress members.
I'll check his social skills when I get the save back in place.

EDIT: He's not particularily well spoken. Skilled speaker is his highest social skill.

Guess your dorfs were just desperate for some meaning in their lives and this chap turned up at the right time.

(Or a visitor spread the word and left before you noticed).

I have not had any visitors yet. No location for them, and even monster hunters haven't shown up despite having breached the caverns.

Likely he spread the word to one of your dwarves, and they quickly brought in all their friends.
