First fey mood in the new fortress, my weaver is screaming for bones. The fort has lots and lots of bones lying around, but she wont collect them.

Do I have to have all desired ingredients before they'll go and get anything now?

They will grab the ingredients in the order they are listed. If there is something else they need before the bones that isn't available they will wait for that item before continuing onwards to the bones.

Start slaughtering animals until the need is fufilled. Dwarves can request wool that's still on baby animals and the like, and as long as they can detect a animal with the bone they want on them that was there previously in a stockpile or trader depot (maybe you crafted it all into trinkets) they'll want that type specifically.

Making a save until you identify it might be best.

Its quite frequently something the dwarf likes in preferences if its specific. Start with that if its unclear what the particular thing the mood asks for.

They don't discriminate based on what's available for these. If you don't keep enough spare plant cloth, wool, silk, bones, or shells available at all times, you're risking a failed mood.

Metalworkers can demand a specific type of metal and glassmakers a specific type of raw glass based on anything you've ever produced.

Adamantine will be selected for metalworkers and clothiers based on current unforbidden items. Possessed dwarves can select specific materials based on the same criteria.
