Looking before buying
« on: January 09, 2023, 03:15:26 pm »

Is there any way to look at an item brought in a caravan?
Like, can I see what book or scroll I am buying?

I have not yet found a way to see item details on either side of the trade window.  I'm thinking it's another 1 of those things time ran out on that we'll see back before too long.

You'll see, when you have never ever succeeded before in buying a book with certain secrets from the caravans because the RNG hates you, now you will get one unexpected!

I suppose we have to judge the books by their covers for now.

Can't you scroll thru items if you click the tradedepot? Not in the trade window, but the depot itself.

You can scroll through items, but remembering what is composed of what can be troublesome if you have to find the same item later in the trade interface. It's smaller problem with scrolls, assuming they have unique names and there's not too many of them... It's bigger with meals or other composite items when you are selling to elves, you can't see if they have animal parts, wooden parts, eggs and other forbidden materials inside.

I miss the "view good"  from trade screen in older versions, as well as other query commands from the interface.

I haven't checked it in game, but can't you inspect items on the ground?

To get details about items for trade, you can see everything by clicking on the trade depot.  But it mixes in your items for trade, and those of the traders.  It's only really an issue for me when I want to successfully trade with the elves, and have lots of decorated items, or prepared meals of varying ingredients.  Copying down the container type, quantity, and quality is usually enough to uniquely identify it when later opening the trade window, but it's quite a bit of extra work.

The inability to see item details in the trade screen functions as sort of like a tariff system that discourages trade of certain items.  I just trade gems now because I don't have to do that whole rigamarole with them.
