Steam: Screen movement
« on: December 17, 2022, 02:12:04 pm »

Maybe this is just me being very nitpicky, but the screen movement in Steam edition feels... choppy? There are keybindings for moving faster, but none for moving slower. It just seems like the viewport jumps quite a considerable amount of tiles for each keypress, and even with "No repeat", I sometimes end up going further than I expected. It's kind of tough to center the view around a specific zone or workshop if I want to watch what's happening in a certain area.

Is there a way to slow things down a bit, make the movement a bit smoother?

I'm playing on Linux through Proton, so was putting it down to that, but no, you're right.
It's all too easy to get two entries for one quick button press, and all too often, pressing a key for longer than a second results in a huge amount of inputs, inevitably moving the viewport a LOT further than I wanted to.
It ends up making the game feel laggier and less responsive, even before FPS death starts to kick in.

I generally find holding the middle mouse button down and dragging a much better way of navigating around. Maybe it's just 'cause i'm really used to that style of navigation.

That's a good point, and it is highlighted by the game as being the preferred method now, so I'll give it a shot, see how I get on.
However, this will unfortunately not help with z-level skipping :(

Thanks, I didn't see this type of navigation in the game, the "choppy" movement of WASD is making me crazy ahah.
