Any ETA On The Next Release Of Dwarf Fortress?
« on: July 19, 2007, 04:25:00 pm »

I'm leaving off playing until the next release, and the uber cool features shown in the gameplay movies, come out.

So, I was just wondering, does anyone have an ETA on the next release?

Thanks in advance.

A pool as in, some grand pool party where all of the Dwarf Fortress fans can get together, eat wine and seed biscuits, listen to the Dwarf Fortress song play over and over again, and swap stories about their crazy dwarves?

Or am I confused?

The RNG has spoken.

The new version will arrive between 0-255. It is not clear if it means hours, days, weeks or months.

Yeah the new version gonna kick ass...my only problem is that there still wont be military action/diplomacy in Dwarf Mode, or gfx support for all tiles.

I say it will arrive in 0-4294967295 seconds.
(And to save half of you the trouble of opening a calculator:
1] Its roughly 136 years
2] That's 2^32-1, four bytes)

But what do I know?
Everything I say should be taken with atleast 1 tsp. of salt, and another liter of Dwarven Wine is recommended.

"I thought it was the size of the others!" said Vanon. "I guess it was just standing further away!"

As I understand, it will be possible to choose an area that contains no river, cave river, chasm or magma channel.  This being the case, my concern is that without the demons at the end, the game will feel pointless.

With armies you could turn an otherwise boring, desolate, or pristine area into a battleground.  Without armies, you'd just be in "sand box" mode.  Right?

I will dig up my old magic 8-ball and ask it when the next version will be out.

No clue to be honest. Anyways the game will really kick ass when we gonna have armies, when we will be able to capture towns [make them vassals I guess, since controlling the captured towns like the dwarf fort would be insane, and would require insane amount of time], make alliances and ask for help from other empires via diplomacy etc. etc.   :)
Basically Ive stopped to play a while ago, because the main goal [killing the demons] was very boring after a period.
