In different civs, certain jobs/professions should be perceived as more or less prestigious, giving people who have them higher social status, and being more appealing/desired by certain personality types, or those who are powerful already and have what they see as "better" options; so for instance, almighty wizards with high social status generally won't be fish cleaners (at least as much), because why do such "lowly" work when you can be a court adviser instead? What noble would demean themselves by farming? Of course, you can still have your humble "just wants to live in the woods and sell lumber" or "was elected as mayor, but really in their heart just wants to just train animals" types, but still.

Which jobs are prestigious would be determined by that civ's values, and if other suggestions about special cultural advancements are implemented (like, one nation known for their unique cheeses, vs another who makes excellent weapons), this may also impact the prestige of different jobs.

Agree totally.

I'd like the legends log to reflect the choices.

Like "Seeking a simpler life, Urist started working as a fish cleaner" if he changes from mayor.

Or "Aspiring for something higher, Urist ran for mayor but lost/and won." if he changes from fish cleaner.

Or "Urist chafed under being demoted from mayor to fish cleaner."
Followed by "Urist was killed in a drunken brawl".

I see a lot of good ideas in this thread. It should definitely consider the dwarfs personality as well. Ambitious dwarfves aiming for prestigious positions, simple minded dwaves choosing a comfortable life. Dwarves who feel tired after a long and stressful life choosing to settle down as a simple farmer. A warrior who got crippled in battle choosing a different job that fits his condition. And of course a dwarf being demoted or fired from a position he really wanted to keep could create some resentment for the villain system.

I like this idea. The professions of the parents should also have some influence in their tendencies. For example the son of a King (who would technically be a Prince) shouldn't be a fish cleaner unless he has either some very specific personality type that moves him to that line of work or was punished with said profession.

Among the criteriums for prestige would be ethics (martial societies would dearly love military occupations) and economics (good-paying positions in a given civilization).

Noble positions (at least raw-defined ones) already have a PRESTIGE:X tag attached to them. The lower the number, the better. All we need is for the game to hook into these values.
