I don''t know how it happened
« on: March 07, 2008, 10:18:00 pm »

But my weaponsmith, in bed for a few years now due to a whip vine barrel beating, is now the father of a second child--and mom, the champion soldier--is carrying TWO babies around with her.

well dad just died of thirst, as usual.  I am tired of restoring from saves... it'd been about a year since my last save, ugh.  Hydra attack and everything.  Oh well, I'll just have to get another weaponsmith!

And despite the tragedy, the only one unecstatic about the whole situation is the new baby, who is now unhappy.  I don't think a tantruming baby will cause too much harm if it comes to that.

You underestimate the power of dwarven children.

The baby being carried around just makes it easier to tear it's mothers throat out when it goes berserk.

Thus causing the chain-reaction of insanity that will undoubtedly afflict every single one of your skilled military dwarves.

It will not be pretty.

No nicer and more comforting sight when the Major of Wrestlers, champion and military police commander of the entire fortress goes berserk, afflicting the entire army (since she was best pal to every one of his underlings). It's the answer to "who watches the watchers" - no-one.

A safeguard was discussed some time earlier: have your soldiers serve a couple of seasons as butchers. After mutilating the twentieth kitten they'll get the "He doesn't really care about anything anymore." sentence in their description, meaning that you've successfully made them heartless monsters. Just the type you need to quell the spiral of tantrums.

ah well I had to start a new fortress anyway.  The frame rate dropped to 10fps and I have a 3ghz core this ran on.

I think the pets are what did me in.

However, in starting the game with the new version, rather than an old save, I see many subtle changes have taken effect, like getting water for the wounded even when there is no well available.

ANd golly taking over a goblin fortress sure makes design that much easier.  I don't even know where to begin in carving out the mountain (I have yet to use reveal or prospector), where before, I dug in and kept going.
