We need HELIOS.  A benevolent AI that distributed nanotech to solve the physical and mental disabilities of the entire population as a whole would be a literal powerup and solve a ton of problems.  Too bad we'll never have anything like that.

In seriousness, I find myself in the frustrating position of wishing we'd pursue things like genetic engineering, cybernetics and regenerative medicine to their logical extremes, but realize that any literal powerups to the human body will lead to even worse inequality in the world so I don't know how much I can support.

Guess we could distribute 1-ups if we had them.  Those would be pretty cool.

Not worse inequality. Just simple weirdness. Worlds warp, man. It's been warped from 200 years ago, and 200 years before that. Make the human experience unrecognisable and... that's exactly what you do. That's the true trap of AI. We're not made for a perfect world.

BUT it's bound to get wackier! Things actually ARE being developed. It's not down to whether humanity will, it's about when some new facts present themselves and stop us from shooting ourselves in the foot.
