Rat Rampage!
« on: July 16, 2007, 07:53:00 pm »

Ouch.

So, somehow, I missed trapping one particular long and winding path leading from the chasm to one of my bedroom areas.

Somehow, a giant rat went down that path, didn't walk into any of the trapped side passages, and got in there, and killed SIX DWARVES (including a marksdwarf and 3 kids)- everyone in the room, in fact.

It then proceeded to run outside and got torn apart by one of the packs of stray War Dogs that wanders around my fort, but still- ouch.

And within minutes:

Zarut Udos, "The insanity of Man" (nice name)

On the floor is a superiorly designed image of a dwarf and a giant rat by Mafol Rigothvucar. The giant rat is striking down the dwarf.

Something tells me I'll be getting a lot of these.

Hey, giant rats are size 8 creatures which can latch on with their bite and tear chunks out of their victims. For comparison, fully grown dwarves are size 6.

Nasty critters, eh?  :)

The dwarf puffed on his pipe. "It is a glory hole, laddie. When my people mined this area, we fashioned many such areas."

I had a simliar problem in my first fortress-I had dozens of openings to the chasm from all my various mining expeditions. Talk about a nightmare. Invisible Giant Moles and Rats creeping around through my whole base got me plenty paranoid.
