Just finished watching season one of Cowboy Bebop (Live Action), and feel the need to unpack it via discussion.
I also watched the original Anime to death.

Anyone else seen it and wish to discuss?

The character design for vicious didnt live up to the anime, but the rest of the cast really grew on me.

It's different in a lot of ways, but I was pleasantly surprised.  My expectations were LOW, lol.

Oh, so we're not posting openly? Ok, fine we can do that.
Overall, I felt the character development was actually more realistic.  Sure, Vicious was a total pansy compared to the Anime, but the live action's character was a character that I could believe exists.  It made sense.
Same could be said about a lot of the characters.  They were less cool because they were more human.
Still, too much Vicious and Julia.  Same could have been done with more screen time for our heroes.
Also, anyone notice how most/all episodes incorporated at least one of the Anime episodes in some visual way?  I think its actually 2, and I think its every episode.
An actual reason to rewatch.  Dunno if the only reason, I'll probably pick the episodes where I missed the second reference, and see if I want to see any of the others.
Probably not going to bother searching Episode 9 for the missing references, it was my least favorite.  Maybe its references were my least favorite Anime episodes?

I haven't watched, because fuck Netflix, but I don't know I ever got more than somewhat hopeful.

My problem with remakes of something good is that they're only aiming to be as good as a thing that already exists, and probably won't quite get there. A new show that's 90% as good as Cowboy Bebop sounds fun, but I can already rewatch the original, and I know it will be 100% as good as the original.

Is there enough new and interesting stuff in there to be worth the effort of pirating it?

I had no prior experience with the anime and found the live-action show decent enough. My only complaints really are:

1. I found the backstory episode superfluous; I think it would have been better to leave that stuff implicit or merely referenced via exposition rather than made explicit. 

2. The "development" of Julia I found to be far too cliche.

Incidentally I went back and started watching the anime. It's interesting the things they kept the same versus the things they changed, at least in the 4 sessions of anime I've seen so far.

Wow, so now we can hide spoilers of the original anime as well!?
@McTraveller: So at 4 Sessions, you haven't even got to the biggest thing they left out of Season 1 of the Live Action.  In a few more Sessions, the ending is the Live Action Season 1 is about to make a lot more sense!

Less spoilery, I think I could accept the live action because I loved the anime so much that I was desperate for any new content.  And there is new content with the characters I love, even if they're slightly different.  Also, there was an animated movie based on the anime tv show.

Oh yeah I could tell easily from the end of live action that it was clearly some well-known character from the anime that showed up there.  Now as to what that character is... yeah I need some more time to watch additional anime sessions.

I think I missed that one.  Damn, now I gotta go back!  I actually really liked that episode, so no complaints.  I actually always wondered how Faye had such an awesome craft, so I liked the story about how she acquired it.  I guess I should have guessed that she "stole" it.
