Hirelings
« on: April 06, 2008, 04:39:00 pm »

I've just started adventure mode after a long time of ignoring it and I have a couple of questions about hirelings:

1. I read a lot of people saying they hired axemen/spearmen etc but I only ever find drunks who wrestle very poorly. Where do you find the more specialised companions?

2. Is there any way of locating your companions? I tend to sneak a lot and this gives my drunk more frames to mess about in. They often go off by themselves and get into fights and I have no idea where all the goddamn spam is coming from. I'd go to help if I knew where they were...not so much to save the drunkard as to rid me of the news that he gave in to pain on every step I take.

For that matter, is there any way to get your companions to sneak?

1)In previous versions, they were as common as drunks, and back then drunks were even a lot more common. It's very difficult to find a specialized companion now.

2)I have the same problem and sadly the answer is no, unless you pay attention to the direction they wander off in.

3)No.

Bah that's disappointing. If you retire an adventurer, is it possible to 'hire' them with another one? If so you could train up a really nice gang!

There are no mercenaries as is currently. They'll be back in the next release.

You can hire your old adventurers provided you are more famous and more skilled than them.

You can also hire your old dwarves from abandoned fortresses if you can find them.

Ok so, I could retire my current ultra tough hammerman, start a few other characters and train them a little bit, then jump back on my original and hire those others all at once?

Yup. Try to retire them in someplace uncrowded and small so it's easier to find them later.

Or, if you prefer the 'horde' tactic, add this tag to the creature of your choice (must be friendly).

[PERSONALITY:EXCITEMENT_SEEKING:0:100:100]

Does not require a new worldgen.

This will make every creature of that race feel exceptionally willing to go for an adventure with you.

Including mayors and guards?
I found this legendary crossbowman in one town..  He feels exceptionally inclined to stay there..
It would be so awesome to exact revenge on this guy for the 8 adventurers he's killed by taking him to a GCS...  Hehehehe...
