Author Topic: Feature Request: Ability to set minimum amount of seeds to keep for sowing  (Read 1486 times)

Hello,

I'd like to request a feature that let's one set a number X of seeds that will not be cooked/milled/etc when seeds are enabled to be processed (either one value that applies to all seed types, or a value that can be set individually per seed type).

Why? Currently, you can either allow or forbid the use of seeds in cooking. The typical player will forbid using seeds in such a way, to prevent the situation of being unable to sow the plant and thus locking it. However, there's definitelty a buildup of seeds happening as a result, which could be used.

If we can set a minimum amount of seeds that are reserved for sowing, a player can more freely use them in foods. Increasing food variety, and possibly giving happy thought to dwarves that like eating seeds (there's probably some that enjoy that?).

Currently, one can toggle the use of seeds to burn off excess, though that has to be monitored to avoid running out entirely. I'd like to eliminate this part of management by letting my dwarves handle the stocks more wisely and keeping seeds to sow on their own.

I'm aware this is not a major problem to any fort, but I think it would be nice to have this improvement :)

Cheers

The best alternative to having a functional steel industry is to have a really, really, really good hospital. And a lot of coffins.

The lack of this feature is basically why we have to have the seed cap. I think maybe a simple way to reuse existing interfaces would be for manager jobs to be able to (optionally) circumvent kitchen settings.  This would be a new toggle, let’s say (k), on the manager’s conditions screen.

So you could globally disable all cooking of X seeds using the existing interface. But then you could put in a manager job that says to go ahead and cook them under certain conditions and btw please (k) ignore kitchen settings.
