What are those flickers on the T map
« on: March 22, 2008, 03:56:00 am »

When I'm travelling through the world in adventure mode, I keep noticing that certain tiles like to shimmer around a bit each turn. Are these migrants or something?

Pressing [c] on the Travel screen should toggle clouds on or off. I believe I've noticed certain shimmers even when clouds are turned off, though.

If it is a solid block, it could be fog, which can't be toggled because it obscures vision.

I tend to find fog over almost every lake in some worlds, but never over land, is fog over land implemented yet or shall we have to wait till the future? I have been in a blizzard on a tundra once, but that wouldnt count as 'pea soup'.

I remember once I ended up in fog on land... got ambushed in it by wolves, and in the fight my vision was limited to one square around my adventurer.

That was pre-z-axis though, so I suppose there might not be fog on land anymore (although I can't think why)

Fog can occur over land, but I think that mostly happens when it blows in off a body of water right now.

It also seems that glaciers very often are covered with fog.

glaciers being large, solid, bodies of water...

speaking of glaciers and fog, it was a recent trip to kilimanjaro that got me playing this game fanatically again.

"hmm, these are interesting rocks.  I wonder how they formed.  wow, look at that one, i should have payed more attention in geology.  Let me see if i can remember some of the names of stones from Dwarf Fortress, im sure it will come to me.  Say, someone could site a pretty awesome fortress here...  Ohh, the grounds hollow.  I wonder if there is a chasm civilization living down in the empty lava tubes?"
