Is there a way to disable temples?
« on: January 28, 2021, 10:17:57 pm »

Having dwarves get unhappy thoughts from not having a temple and being bothered with petitions is annoying filler that I'd rather not have to deal with.  Same thing with Libraries, though they are still technically optional they still take up namespace that I'd rather they didn't.

I think changing PRIESTHOOD_UNIT_COUNTS in d_init.txt to high enough numbers will prevent temple petitions.

Ironblood didn't use an axe because he needed it. He used it to be kind. And right now he wasn't being kind.

There are two threshold parameters for temple petitions (and two for guild petitions). Increasing these to values that you won't reach will block petitions.

However, there isn't really any way to block the need for religion and library related needs, although you might be able to affect it by hacking the dwarven race personality profile.

There are frequently dwarves without the need to pray or meditate. But I have not yet found any common pattern amog traits and beliefs that would explain this. If aomeone could elaborate on that, it should be possible to hack the dwarves accordingly,  I think.

Just remove religion from the dwarf entity? ([RELIGION:PANTHEON] )
Don't think they generate praying needs if they don't worship anything.

But note that some will pick up religion from nearby humans and elves, so either deal with them, or remove religion from each of the entities.

I don't particularly like them either. Might be different if they actually gave some kind of advantage to the fortress, but they don't do anything.

Yes, plague of worshipping spread around worlds, so I almost can't find atheistic goblins when build goblin fortress.

As far as I've understood priests assigned to temples actually share the burden of consoling stressed dorfs with the mayor.

Probably only for members of that particular religion. So not all that handy really.
