aproximately how scary can high skill misc object users be?
« on: December 13, 2020, 06:27:02 am »

like can an misc object user who is significantly more skilled than his opponent defeat an enemy who is using a technically "superior" weapon? How big must the skill gap between the two fighters be for that to realistically occur?

It's been quite a while since I had a similar* scenario in action so I can't be exact about the required skill levels.

My personal observations on the matter (based on fort mode) is that in a worst case scenario** the one without a proper weapon has to be able to block/dodge every one of their opponent's attack until the opponent gets too exhausted and passes out. If I remember correctly that starts to become feasible at about rank 10 (Accomplished) in vanilla DF where most enemies aren't really that skilled. However skill level by itself means nothing if your warrior doesn't have the necessary endurance and passes out first.

* Well trained soldiers, armed with shields and modded non-metal weapons. The weapons were just like the vanilla ones but made from either bone or just wood so they really struggled to cause enough damage even through just skin so each fight could last for a long ass time until either party managed to score a killing blow.

**When they use something extremely light as a weapon. In this case a high strength score could mitigate that though.

Bring Kobold Kamp to LNP! graphics compatibility fix.

So the conclusion I'm getting here is that we use QSPs because dwarves can't pilot submarines.

I'm under the impression that it's not the skill of the misc. object user that is relevant, but their own strength and the mass of the object in question. A strong dorf with a heavy lead crutch is going to do a lot more damage to the opponent than a weak dorf wielding a pig tail shirt. I'm also told that the basalt spikes hammered onto the crutch are just for decoration, and don't add to the damage.
