Rogue Frontier - A space adventure in colorful ASCII
« on: August 24, 2023, 07:31:37 am »

Hi, I am INeedAUniqueUsername and this is my game. Rogue Frontier is a real-time ASCII-style space adventure in an alternate timeline of Transcendence by George Moromisato. In a dream, you received apocalyptic visions from a mysterious known as the Orator. You have personally taken it upon yourself to travel to the Celestial Center and meet the Orator. Fight enemies, loot items, trade stuff, install devices, invoke magic powers, etc. Basically, I remade Transcendence in ASCII because I had a strange mood in April 2020. Still a work in progress (story and missions).

Features:
- Visuals: This game has a lot of color and animation. It's important for this game to look *pretty*.
- Combat mechanics: Your ship is protected by a stack of layered armor segments - the highest active segment takes damage first, then the next one and so on. There are lots of ways to get killed (or stay alive) in this game - such as decay, lightning, targeting, stealth, tracking (anti-stealth), blinding, barriers, etc. Many of these mechanics apply when armor takes damage. Better get a strong shield generator!
- Persistent world: All star systems update (at a slower pace) even when the player is in another system
- Mortality: Everything breaks. Weapons have limited ammo; armor lose max HP with repeated damage; batteries lose efficiency.

Planned features:
- Living universe: Every faction carries out some kind of activity. Orion warlords set up turrets while Iron pirates prey on lone travelers.
- Three paths: You have three starting ships (Amethyst yacht, Beowulf gunship, and Clark freighter) to choose from. Each ship has its own "alignment" that grants access to certain utility stations - the Amethyst store, the Beowulf club, and the Campers collective.
