My elf has high strength and is at least few times both legendary at fighting and hammer. Also legendary dodger and superior stats against exertion.

The hammer is average in quality.

Ok, I read that as vampire my strength is now double and hammer is made of silver. Silver is much better for hammers than adamantine. I think I can do it.

I'm wondering if the hammer will wear out and break before the colossus does.

I managed it with a ... I think stone hammer of some sort, back in 41.25 or something. Took fricking ages and I got knocked all over the map every time the colossus hit me, but I managed it, so assuming that fighting hasn't changed too much across all those updates, it should still be possible. Just be prepared to fight it for at least 40 RL minutes.
