Adopted pet starving
« on: July 14, 2020, 05:35:22 am »

Hi There,
I am recently returned after a long absence. I never did get past Newbie. I am using V 0.43.05 because that is what I had left over from last time around.

So, I have an adopted pet cavy (what IS a cavy?) starving. Guess the owner is slack. How do I fix this?
thanks

Put the cavy in a pasture that has grass or a cave floor with plant growths.
Have you checked the DF Wiki, by the way?

It might not work. It's possible for grazers to start following their trainers around, resulting in them starving to death (happened to a couple of war trained elephants in an old fortress of mine).

Grazer pets will stay in the pasture most of the time. The trained animals that chase the animal trainer are more of a problem.

But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

Chained up grazers will be kept alive by your dwarves even if chained on barren land.  It does require more plant farming / gathering however, since your foodstocks are used rather than the wild growth.
