Masons won't use some rocks
« on: July 14, 2020, 05:47:38 am »

Hi There,
I am recently returned after a long absence. I never did get past Newbie. I am using V 0.43.05 because that is what I had left over from last time around.

My masons won't use some rocks, for instance gneiss. They ignore this stone right next to the workshop and travel great distances to get others. Possibly relevant is that sometimes when I go to cut gems, gneiss is listed as a gem to be cut. sometimes it is not. This trouble started after I dumped rocks including gneiss into a quantum stockpile, them claimed everything in it and built a masons shop next to it. That shop uses gneiss, but the other doesn't. (how do you mass claim everything in a quantum pile, by the way?)
thanks in advance

It doesn't sound like they ignore gneiss, but rather that they select other rocks instead. The logic for usage of rock is weird, where it seems to use a stack logic rather than a queue (i.e. they'd use the latest rock produces, rather than the earliest one available), and doesn't base it on proximity. There are at least two ways around it:
- Link the stone stockpile(s) to the mason shop. That will force the mason to use only rock in linked stockpiles (beware that not understanding linking completely is the root of many player produced problems).
- Specify the kind of rock to use using the 'd'etails menu. I think it this functionality is available in that (old) version.
