Industry Mod
« on: May 30, 2020, 09:53:27 am »

I've started drafting a user modification.

I wrote 2 PDFs so far (Added a 3rd one in the previous edit) to organize thinking around how to do this. The end goal is to have a somewhat more complex industrial or production system, which to some extent mimics actual industrial processes, but not in their full extent and complexity, rather bits and pieces which seem like they could make for interesting usermodification. While this mod is far from complete, in fact it's not even started yet, I thought I'd want to share these initial thoughts, as I think they might be an inspiration to others who are making mods and help them as well to organize their thinking around how to expand the dwarven economy.

One of the ideas here is that you don't need to plan in advance how to use a particular endpoint or class. For an example if `magnesium powder` sounds like an interesting reagent, then it's possible to make the system upto that point, and figure out later what product it would be used for. An attempt to provide a structured way for making incremental progress in other words. The labels in these files are also only intended to assist the creation of the mod, and they're not intended to appear in the actual mod.

I'll probably add a couple more files to this list tomorrow. Any thoughts so far? Did you find any inspiration from these?

I might have a look at them later, but ever thought about expanding the leather, cloth, and brewing industries?

I remember back in the day a user of my old mod had given me ideas for making brewing an industry

I think expanding the cloth and leather industries might require also looking into how clothing functions. But certainly they seem like industries that could also be expanded? In the forms of tools, additional material processing and refinement chains, etc. Personally I'm trying to avoid having industry that involves animals.

The PDFs are fairly short and concise, I think reading them won't be too arduous.

Also added a draft for another elven race called `aelphar` and added the related PDF to the thread.
