Restraint not working
« on: April 19, 2020, 05:16:09 pm »

Hi, guys! Question! I have a vampire in the fort and I think i know who he is. I selected the restraint, put him as owner but nothing happened. How can I make my jail work?

Is it as easy as that?
I thought you needed to get him arrested, at which point he'll be chained up to any chains marked for use by justice (j).

Maybe not though, never occured to me to just assign someone to a Chian.  :D
You'd probably need a Captain of the Guard or Sheriff to actually take the vampire to the chain, doubt any old citizen would do it.

You haven't assigned him to be attached to the restraint - you've defined the chain as the center of a Zoo and made him the owner of it.

It is not possible to manually restrain members of your fortress; the next best option would be to put him in a Cage, but that will require getting him to trigger a cage trap, typically by falling unconscious on top of it.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

If he knows he has a vampire, presumably it's because it's killed some folk. In that case there'll be justice reports and the vampire can just be arrested. (Requires Captain of the Guard or Sheriff).

You can also just falsely convict him of any outstanding crimes in the justice screen.  I'm not sure what long terms side-effects that might have though.

can you just assign them to a burrow, then construct a wall to keep them sequestered; then wait?  why not just give a magma shower?

No long term effects yet. Most of the Villains update in fortress mode was put off until post-Steam.

After that, heavy handed justice can lead to fortress wide dissent and rebellion. Apparently.
