Alerts: do have now 2 squads and toggle A ( Enter: Set squad to alert)  off is not possible? (removing A (=alert)
Set all 2 squads on training (T) in Barrack and how about i,q options ? ( there is individual or Squad equipment ? )

Did not assign uniforms yet, but <U> in equipment screen gives a uniform template ( leather, steel and archer) for one dorf or whole squad ..well at least they wear a uniform.

Seems that clothing not always goes together (fit) with armor wearing : replace clothing option ..the dorf wears only armor (clothing) ( the dwarves get no bad thought if only wearing armor) -> well, then i let the squad only wear armor ..is this a good idea ?

Now only assigning weapons to the squad , but choosing one is not that easy : Dorfs only carry a weapon if their profession requires one : miner, woodcutter, hunter and soldier
So supposse i make(choose) all soldiers in a squad ?

Replace clothing is best as there are some layer bugs which make it difficult for dorfs to work out some armour/clothing combinations (they won't get bad thoughts).

i and q should let them store equipment in cabinets and other furniture in the barracks. Possibly no difference between the two. Possibly neither work properly...

The standard free choice "Melee weapon" will just let them grab whatever's available. They'll take what they're skilled in first and the best weapon of that type (commander gets first pick, then each of the dorfs in position order).

They should have a uniform set up as default, there was a menu when you created the squad.

Finally, turn off miner, woodcutter and hunter labors. It confuses them for some reason (bugs).

Thanks
Clicking with mouse in Military screens makes it much easier.

The miltia commander in the squad  has a bismuth bronze battle axes choosen  for "īndividual choice , weapon" and the other 9 dwarves has not  choosen (could not, because there were no weapons ?) a individual weapen choice.-> how to get weapons for them ?

Suppose the squad members were all soldiers ?->. no i give them all names:  soldier
They are training and do work in their Original profession? ...no hauling jobs for them seems to me

If they all have that option set for their weapons and they're set to wear their uniform even off-duty (they are by default, unless you changed this setting) they'll all grab a weapon as long as weapons exist.  'Individual choice, weapon' will grab ranged weapons too.  But then you need bolts available to fire with.  If you use individual choice, melee weapon' it'll restrict them to only melee types.  If no weapons exist, you need to create some for them and they'll pick them up.

As mentioned above, make sure none of your soldiers have Mining, Woodcutting, or hunting labors selected.  Those labors interfere with military settings and cause the dwarves to not pick up equipment.

A  laborious thing to do , because its only in Unit list to see what labor skill the concerning dorf has.
You can't see in the squad list where the miners, woodcutters, rangers are listed ..or do i miss something ?

BUT ..there is dwarf therapist...now only miner/woodcutter /ranger labor set off?
Wondering if there are more then 1 squad DT shows this too

Dwarf Therapist is a MUST for managing labors.  I would never try with vanilla game.  In DT, you can sort it by a bunch of things, including squad or military status.  Just play around with the dropdowns at the top of the page.  I don't have it installed right now so I can't tell you specifics but its pretty straightforward in DT.

If the Dwarf is a soldier, they need those labor turned off.  Other labors are fine for them though.  Just not those specific labors.  That, ensure they're still set to wear their uniforms even off duty, ensure that they all have a uniform applied, and ensure you have available weapons for them, and you should be good to go.

The choice is a metal armor for the squad ( but there is no equipment now in stock)  and a individual choice, weapon
Dwarf therapist shows for equipment a blue color for missing metal equipment
The squad is unarmed for now weapons and has no armor for metal and they are in training

Perhaps i must equip the squad with training equipment?

They will pick up armour and weapons automatically if it's part of their uniform unless they're trapped in a burrow away from the stockpiles or you don't have any weapons/armour.
They don't need training equipment.
