Right now the most difficult outstanding bug not addressed by 47.01 (and no queued up plans to immediately address as of writing this in 47.xx) is how difficult it is to fufill the needs of dwarves most closely tied with their stomachs, along with the general little bit of sidelined progress in implementing the tavern's arc's long standing objectives. Which is why this thread is made to address both of these.
The new feature being proposed is '
cultural dishes' not dissimilar to cultural instruments in thier entity generation along broad lines, and with the intent of them being fully mod-customizable will become the new interest of dwarves's need for fine food. Holding ingredients and dishes seperately will mean they can fufill their need on 'types' of fine cuisine, but will instead have two fields; one of favorite ingredients, and a core favorite dish, combining both being the ideal eating experience but not nessecity.
Some tags to be proposed include:[GENERATE_CUISINE] ## Used as a parent token for arguements about cuisine food items being generated in a randomized array of ingredients rather than structure.
[CUISINE:FOOD:ITEM_FOOD_DESSERT] ##like a variety of dwarven and regular sugar required in a dish if both ingredients are tokened in and availible.
[FOOD:ITEM_FOOD_BISCUIT] ## Biscuits can still be returned to file and generic hardcoded foods added, but may have limitations or none at all. Biscuits will instead constitute a dwarf's possible favorite cultural food, seperate to favorite ingredient.
[CAVERN_CUISINE] ## Found amongst dwarves & extent goblins, lists exotic underground ingredients like mog hopper juice, underground plants, meats & purring maggots milk.
[DISGUSTING_CUISINE] ## This food will often outsource live vermin creatures, and unusual body parts like eyeballs, creates apprehension upon eating if not used to it.
##Akin to the monkey brain soup in Indiana Jones:Temple of Doom though hopefully not nessecitating a head, skullcup optional.
[LOCAL_CUISINE] ## This outstreches to all kinds of food found locally rather than direct weekly background food production to contribute towards dishes, creating sometimes hard to attain in fortress mode variety depending on how many dishes are made.
[VEGETARIAN_CUISINE]##Mostly for elves, food generated will not have meat included within it, popular sorts may be considered vegan or have accompanyment of honey/eggs, a distinction can be made at the players whim.
##Boiled Brocolli anyone? Carnivorous races and cuisine eaters find this disgusting.
[CARNIVORE_CUISINE]##Mostly for goblins as a nessecity, the antithesis to vegetarian cuisine that forces all dishes to be meat orientated.
##Boiled Liver anyone? Grazer Herbivore races & vegetarian cuisine eaters find this disgusting.
TavernsNot content to gloss over my point previously on slightly stalled Tavern arc goals, one large implementation of this is that taverns can have food delivered directly to be placed upon tables on request given the identifiable nature of the cultural dishes meaning that different taverns serve different food. By having dwarves queue up at tables and thrones to eat for pleasure when they call for the tavern keeper to bring the meal to them.
This is to be carried over to adventure mode from fortress mode (or vice versa), as if you can find a seat, the tavern keeper will listen or mark out a table for you to wait at after paying and bring you out a meal to eat. Helping keep your own adventurer's morale up after choosing a cuisine choice and hopefully focused and sharp.
- If so inclined, you may wish to cook your own cuisine instead if you know anything about it by collecting ingredients in the wild, selling them on may be profitable.
This is more a address to the many - many threads surrounding like a quick enclosed bibliography below about cooked food and food functions.

#2: New appointed noble: Chef (Read 958 times):: and a interesting reply about scheduled and serving meals, to add my own input maybe a 'Head Chef' could front the UI menus & creative process of new cultural recipies too (see rest of post above for detail)
