Do you make Dining Rooms anymore?
« on: February 05, 2020, 10:26:22 am »

With Taverns I have come to wonder if my Dining Room is even being used!  Do you folks bother with a Dining Room if you know you are going to have a Tavern?  Nobody seems to eat in the Dining Room anymore.  Mostly kids playing in it.

Well I make a dining room and turn it into a tavern so... it's pretty much the same thing I used to do, just with a tavern slapped over it.

I do generally have a secondary dining room I make lower down in the fortress over the arena, but that's just because it amuses me more than anything.

Lately I have set the dining room, tavern, and food stockpile all near each other. The dining room usually consisting of a separate, but attached room to the tavern.

Previously, I kept food near the farms, and the dining room near that, and the tavern somewhere else totally.

I don't like having a messy tavern, so I try to keep them separate still. But it's not a big deal either way. As long as you have tables and chairs somewhere.

A tavern with tables and chairs basically replaces a public dining room, but nobles still require private ones...

There's no reason not to have a separate dining room unless you are short on space for whatever reason.

In a large fort you'll want a bunch of smaller food stockpiles and dining rooms all over the place to minimize travel time.

I always have several smallish 8-person dining rooms in my Tavern. Sculpture gardens and museums too. I enjoy building a sprawling tavern over time. It's nice to see the dorfs spread and make use of all of it.

If your dwarfs eat more often in the tavern than in the dining room, that just means you have enough tables in the tavern for all of your dwarfs. I always have a spare dining room, usually 6 or 8 tables in a room full of moss.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.
