Truly this can't be happening.

The comment about lost souls being Purified makes me think that people from Katia's world can end up becoming skeletons in CairnCorp when they die as an afterlife, which is a little depressing.

Well, then you won't like anything else about the soul cairn; the Ideal masters are doing something to the souls, yes, maybe absorbing all the energy associated with them or eating them. Maybe even purifying them. The Soul Cairn is full of all the souls that get soul trapped, and get used up by enchantments. I'm not aware of anything in the lore prohibiting the souls of mortals from being destroyed entirely, either. They might get sucked dry until they just cease to exist.
