Retiring Fortresses Question

If you make a fortress and then retire it, I know that the dwarves will continue on with their lives and all of that, but will they actually continue to expand the fortress? As in, will they build structures and dig tunnels and such, the same way that AI fortresses run when made without player intervention?

Nope. They may breed or migrate out, though.
