I'm wondering if having too many visiting entertainers can negatively impact your fort in some ways.

Hundreds of them will kill your FPS eventually. Goblins will tend to drink too much and die if you have a tavern keeper and will get into arguments more than others which will effect dwarves in various manners (some positive but more negative on average). Humans will have religious needs, so a couple of extra temples may be required (if you're the type to make one temple for every religion in the fortress).

Other than that, entertainers are great. Always around in the tavern whenever your dwarves drop by, so everyone gets a good chance of positive performance appreciation thoughts. And eventually they'll apply for residency and citizenship at which point you can put them in the army and send them away to war.

Well, some performers apply for residency/citizenship, while most don't, but if you've got a decent visitor throughput you'll get a decent number of applicants.

Note that dedicated temples open to visitors reduce the visitor throughput significantly, as a lot of visitors start their visit with a half year long prayer bender before they go on to whatever task they were actually there for (relaxing, demanding artifacts, applying for residency, study, etc.).
