Siege is gone but invaders aren't
« on: December 06, 2019, 05:23:07 am »

I have encountered something strange, that I can not find any explanation for. I was under goblin siege recently. It was not very big, like 10 invaders, but I don't have any proficient military yet. I enclosed my dwarves in the fortress that could only be accessed by a long corridor of cage traps. After a while the goblins started walking in and 6 of them got trapped. The siege ended and some of the remaining goblins left. SOME. Two of the goblins are still in the trapped corridor standing on their caged comrades. [SIEGE] marker from the top of the screen is gone, but they won't budge. They are still presented as invaders under 'view units'. I checked them and they don't seem to be hurt at all. They must be bugged or something, I thought. I denied one of my petitioners (who came to me to eradicate mosters from my caves, so should have some battling skill) so he would have to get out through the same corridor, that the goblins are in. Wanted to see if they would attack. They did. They slaughtered him with no problem (gg man, you were truly skilled in fighting if you got killed by two goblins) and are still standing in the same place.

What is this, is this normal? Never got something like this.

How do i get rid of them without fighting? Any way to 'unbug' them?

What version are you playing? Sounds like an old bug that was once fixed is reoccurring.

Interesting. Is the siege Captain in a cage?

For 42.03 Toady reported that he had:
Quote
Stopped dead/caged commanders from stopping invaders from moving.

If you spot it again, it's worth keeping the save and reporting it.

I don't think so, but I am not sure. None of them has any special profession names. The caged ones are two swordsman, two lasher, crossbowman and spearman. The free ones are a pikeman and spearman.

Ok, so I think it was some pathfinding problem, that i accidentally just solved. So in my fortress I have this design where the caged pathway kinda loops around the main one. The main one has several bridges in it, so when I close them everyone has to take the cage path. So I opened the bridges to see what will happen (aka if they slaughter all my dwarves) and suddenly the goblins started moving again. It seemed like their senses finally kicked in and they fled. I still don't understand why it worked. In the end they didn't even use the main pathway that I just opened, they escaped through the same trapped tunnel they went in that was available to them for the whole time.

I frequently (half of the time or so) get campers remaining in one of the entrance corridors when the remainder flee. Some of the time I've seen trolls scared by the horrifying guard cat barring the way (in a lookout above the start of the tunnel), but most of the time they just hang out outside of the guard cat, by the entrance drawbridge (allowing me to occasionally atom smash one or two of them), and some of them may be above ground. The number of campers tend to be about half a dozen.
