Changing keys for Z-levels
« on: November 20, 2019, 02:21:58 am »

Hi, I am a beginner player and I use a compact keyboard with no keys for < and >

I would like to know exactly what entry I must edit in keybindings--General in order to change the keys for going up and down the Z-levels.

Another issue is that my seven dwarfs seem to execute my commands with blinding speed. Is that normal or should I try to slow down the program?

You can adjust keybindings in the same menu you save, or in /data/init/interface.txt - it's CURSOR_UP_Z and CURSOR_DOWN_Z in the latter.

You can set fps cap in data/init/init.txt

Hi Fleeting frames, I located the entries in /data/init/interface.txt.

Since I am no computer wizard, can you explain me what text I should entry there in order to switch among T-levels with <ctrl> a and <ctrl> z ?

Help appreciated  :)

Searching the file for "CONTROL" didn't find anything, but "CTRL" does: "CUSTOM_CTRL_A" and "CUSTOM_CTRL_Z" ought to work.

Also, in this case I'd use the in-game menu since that allows you press the keys you want to trigger, without needing to know what they're called.

That's why I asked what entry I must edit in order to change the keys. I fumbled half an hour in keybindings--General to no effect.

The ones bound to ">" and "<". Should be called "CURSOR_UP_Z" and "CURSOR_DOWN_Z".

Usual way is: https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Interface.txt#SYM
"[SYM:2:a]"
"[SYM:2:z]"

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

In keybindings, it is ESC-Key Bindings - General - Page down twice - select Move view/cursor up (z) with arrow keys - select Add binding on the right with right arrow - Press Enter - Press the key(combination) you want - press Enter - ESC - up thrice to select Save and exit - Enter.

I set mine to mousewheel up and down since it's faster than a button :)
