« on: September 25, 2019, 03:34:41 am »

very simple piped-in water from river to a room...
a few carps got in while filling the room. several died and are now skeletons, but the blood remains.
Haven't seen it cause Miasma in a while, but blood still there... am I screwed?

I don't think it's ever going away, unless you drain and clean it, but on the other hand, I don't think you're screwed either. It shouldn't have much of an effect, if at all, on the quality of the water.

ps. Or use DFhack to clean contaminants.

You can hide the body with h after targeting it with k inspection, and as soon as the blood is presumably drank (or cleaned out by you, replaced with some fresh water) it will likely stop being a problem.

Its a similar situation with tree logs that fall into murky ponds, the effort to retrieve it isn't worth it (unless you're really desperate), so you would normally forbid those logs so dwarves don't become pre-occupied with trying to get them, and hide them from view, soon to be forgotten abou.
