Spacebase Startopia - Rise of the Return of the Station!
« on: August 29, 2019, 04:31:04 am »

I am surprised has not already been mentioned on these forums! I know a few of you were fans of the original.

Steam Link

"The 10-mission, fully dubbed single-player Campaign will require all your skills as Commander of the Spacebase Startopia as you strive to create one of the most attractive trade and tourism destinations in the known universe.

Each of the three Decks will require your leadership skills, with the Sub Deck containing all of the Rooms vital to survival, while the Fun Deck focuses on your visitors and the flora and fauna found on the Bio Deck provides sufficient Resources for survival as well as a home to the graceful Dryads.

Prevail against your competitors, for you are not alone on the Space Station. Sabotage your opponents' economy or attack them with your Mech Units, conduct trade and beware of Space Pirates eager to board your Station.

The dynamic narrator AI “VAL” reacts to your decisions and is always at your side in both word and deed – and the occasional extremely unqualified comment.

In addition to the extensive single player Campaign, an individually configurable sandbox mode as well as both a competitive and a cooperative multiplayer mode for up to four players awaits you."

Curious about what the cooperative mode entails.

Also,

"Spacebase Startopia captivates with its original mixture of economic simulation and empire building strategy paired with classic RTS skirmishes and a good dose of humor. In addition to the challenging single player Campaign and the versatile battle mode, there are also competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes for up to four players. And as if maintaining the three Space Station Decks, entertaining the eight Alien races and defending against enemy invaders were not enough of a challenge, the dynamic narrator AI is not going to mince matters and commentates the events in a lovely but sharp-tongued manner."

Dynamic Narrator A.I.?

Here is hoping for a Randy Random rimworld-like setting :)

Startopia was one of my all time favorite games. So happy to see a remake, so terrified that it will be shit

I've played the hell out of Startopia in my teenage years, was one of my favorite games! I still give it a yearly playthrough sometimes, and always have a lot of fun.
I also hope they don't screw it up, since the Dungeons games didn't really manage to grab me. If they were to just do the same game with current graphics and maybe a couple of added features, would already be great.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

The "burning questions" video did not address Epic, lootboxes, or microtransactions.

Given that, we can safely assume the pleasure deck will be day 0 DLC, the bio deck will be Epic exclusive, all the scuzzers will come out of lootboxes and new segments will cost $0.99 to unlock.

Amazing! Quite a surprise to see this get rebooted, but I have fairly high hopes. If it just manages to hit the same basic notes with more modern technology behind it and a bit better testing, it'll be OK, though it would be a little disappointing for it not to have the same Britishish humor. It seems like it's going a good deal more slapstick.... or might I say dumb.

True dat. Would be great to have the same narrator back. Very condescending, yet somewhat warm and friendly!
