Farm in a paddock?
« on: May 16, 2019, 10:41:32 pm »

I have a large paddock just outside of my fort entrance, with a few chooks, pigs and water buffalo grazing and hopefully breeding in.  To provide some protection against roving Kobolds or whatever, I have a wall and with a few doors around this paddock.

If I now create farm plots inside the walled paddock, what will happen?
1. Animals will trample or eat anything I try to grow (as per real life)
2. The farm plots and paddock will just co-exist?
3. The farm plot area will be subtracted from the total paddock area, but otherwise all will be OK?

Essentially 3. Each farm plot tile will be one tile less to provide grass for the grazers. Trampling of crops is currently not implemented (which is fortunate, as the means to keep the crops from being trampled are totally inadequate). Note that saplings can be trampled, though.
Also note that only grazers need "grass" to graze, so pigs and birds can be kept in a pen inside (or completely on top of farm plots) without any issues.

Finally, it can be noted that doors don't keep Kobolds out: they're capable of picking locks (but on the other hand they're after valuables, not livestock).
