Support for Hiveable Vermin in Caverns
« on: March 01, 2019, 07:00:16 pm »

I post this because i was hoping it would be a sort of low-hanging fruit and easy to implement. And i realize it doesnt apply to any vanilla entities, but it does seem like a feature that makes sense but was just overlooked.

The idea is to allow colonies of ants or bees to occur in caverns. This would allow modders to make cave bees and such, or allow ants and termites to spawn underground which seems a reasonable enough place for them. At the moment colonies just dont spawn in the caverns, even if the vermim does.

I think it would definitely make sense to have ant colonies in the caverns, especially considering there are ant people down there.

It will be low-hanging fruit once the map rewrite completely replaces the broken underground code. Hopefully we'll see interesting underground entity stuff then.

Cavernicolous insects especially would be really cool. Troglofauna are exactly the kind of weird wonky wacky creepy crawlies I think belong in a game like dwarf fortress. I think the introduction of species like these and the forgotten beasts that could be based on them would be really cool. Axolotl and weird cave beetles and spiders. worms pooping out glowing goop to be harvested and eaten as a fine delicacy.
