Raiding a tower
« on: September 26, 2018, 03:54:10 pm »

There is a tower that was not listed as a neighbor when I embarked, I want to raid it for the secrets of life and death.

Will they be able to retaliate as their not a neighbor?

I'm pretty sure they will be able to retaliate no matter where they are after you upset them.   That just means you have to raze the site or conquer them.

Well, perhaps not.
The way raiding works right now is:
1) You raid someone (and are spotted)
2) That entire civilization declares war on your civilization
3) Distance and pop/wealth triggers are removed to encourage the civ to attack you (but they can also just as easily attack any other site in your civ).
There is no actual "retaliation" just a state of war and less barriers which helps to encourage attacks.

But...Towers can't actually declare war on anyone. Can they?
So, would they actually come long-distance to attack you after a raid? Needs more Science.

They definitely can be at war. I tried a raid and their now listed as such.

The tower is listed as an entirely new civilization?

(I mean in the list of civs, not on the map. Did the tower's parent civ go to war with you, or just the tower itself?)

From my previous experience with this. Towers are their own tiny civ. One of my captured dwarf even escaped from the dungeons or something and after discussing it with the necromancers became their new warleader (or whatever it was called) after killing their last warleader.

Towers are reasonably piss-easy to raid with anything except recruits. They're also a good way of training armies and filling up libraries, but not a good source of metal if your metal industry relies on scavenge and salvage. Also the secrets of life and death have to be secured on a pedestal or display case, since necromancers aren't capable of doing any sort of useful labor.

So they sent a siege finally. If the lack of reports is to be believed, no other fortresses have been attacked, just mine.

So this means you dont need to be within range of towers anymore to experience necro sieges.
