SO I know from a previous version of dwarf fortress that adventurers who retire at a player fort have to wait a few years for long-term residence. Is their any way to speed up this process?

assign an active captain and have him go training, come back in adventure mode and ask the captain to be "militia-dwarf" which is equivalent to hearthperson/lieutenant. might have to tell him/her you killed a giant or some other megacritter to convince him/her.

the adventurer after, will not only be a resident, but also a member of the fort in which you can assign noble positions to. watch your character eventually be king/queen if your in a young civ/dying civ, have fun
