Timeline:
Light: After long ages, the Generation Ship has finally reached its destination.
  • Dark: The ship's ADI (Automated Djinn Intellect), quickly forces its living cargo to awaken and make landfall, harrying them forth, declaring that it could not ensure the ship's stability in these Dream-infested lands. The bleary-eyed occupants soon arrive on the shores of a dark and seemingly arid land with the ship no where in sight, though precious supply containers have luckily been deposited alongside them.
  • Dark: Mysterious purple-skinned figures that roam in the night are discovered as inhabitants of this world, it seems a mutual equilibrium between the people are created and tensions between them have both led to avoidance. It seems the migrants, weren't the only one here like they hoped.
  • Light: Curious members of the purple-fleshed race eventually make contact with the settlers and in time, a kind of mutually intelligible communication is set up between the two groups. It comes to past that the Augerines, as they called themselves, were people of the Dream like those Outside were people of the Essence. Both groups mostly leave each other alone, save for the curious.
Dark: The settlers from the Generation Ship are enslaved.
Light: Renewed hope for escape unites the people, bringing them closer together than ever.
  • Light: The possibility of leaving excites the people, and their newfound unity gives allows a few researchers to experiment with methods. To their shocked surprise, the honey of an oddly large and hostile breed of bee holds incredible power within. The goopy, strangely coloured fluid acts like a drug, granting those that ingest it mystic powers of many varieties. The honey does have withdrawal effects, and you must be careful in doses- but the boon to the populace is great, speeding manufacturing and pushing research forward. The honey, great as it is, finds incredible value near overnight, being used often in trading.
  • Dark: A murder, an uprising, and a dark fiery god deep beneath the earth. A hero of flame and darkness must lead his people in casting off the yolk of oppression. They must flee, or be murdered by the corrupt champions of light.
Dark : The refugees fragment, forming new nations and loosing their unity as they spread across the new world.
  • Dark: The War of Four Swords and None. The first war begins, as the new nations clash for land, resources, and slaves.
  • Light: Desperate folk stumble upon and loot a collection of magical items and ingredients, the life's work of one of the corrupt champions of light who had been pursuing a ritual allowing the capture of souls. The notes and documents are eventually buried and forgotten.
  • Dark: The ADI of the original generation ship finally fails. The circuits & matrices that run its strange mechanical mind are old & frail, and the contraption had been failing for years. With its untimely failure at the hands of the unbridled carnage of the War of Four Swords and None, most hope of researching an escape from the planet dies. The spirits shackled to the device as fuel escape the ADIs chains, dissipating into the ether afterwards. This slows a deal of technological and magical advancement, and much information from the past is lost from its memory banks.
  • Light: The Guide of Memory is formed, to record the past such that it may not be lost again, and so that memory of the ancient enemy is never forsaken.
Light: The War of the Glaciers, the last great united conflict of civilisation, has ended. The Magi Vyrol, she who would beget the line of Sybeth, leads the last remnants of the world's civilisations into the Tovorin Basin, the last place where the Chill has not yet taken hold. The Augerines mainly retire to torpor in this age, with the other species assimilating under Vyrol's guidance, or perishing in the snow.
  • Light: Under Vyrol's leadership, six cities are constructed in a hexagon shape in the Tovorin Basin. The cities are constructed in a way that acts as a ritual on a massive scale, shielding the cities and the space within the hexagon from the Chill.
  • Dark: The Molten Gate closes for the first time in recorded history. The great nation of Kaimblash sinks forever into fiery depths of the world. Their people, their nation, and their god are never heard from again. The surface world is truly alone against the coming cold.
Dark : A new ice age comes, the time of great civilizations is over.
  • Light: The last mages come together to cast a magic ritual. They know their lives will be forfeit, and there's no guarantee of success. Their objective is worth it, though. The creation of an afterlife.
    • Dark: Although most agree that the rewards, an afterlife, immortality, and continued existence away from the frigid world, far outweigh the terrible sacrifices the ritual demands, which include the blood of one's own kin, cannot be ignored. The ritual proceeds nonetheless.

I enjoyed how there seemed to be a real sense of somberness in the scene, and I'm interested to see how the dynamic for the ship's launching develops.

The Seventh Chorus descended from The Pinnacle above Mount Arquus. Their shining armor and holy blades wrought forth unquestionable obedience in defense of the Dream. Only through work and repentance could our refugee's Essence be cleansed. In time the people forgot they we're conquered and enslaved, for that is not how it was written in the history texts and holy books. In time, life under the Choruses became the norm, for none had lived any other life.

Focus: What did the settlers escape from and how?

Addition: Light: Its job apparently done, the strange orb that had been relentlessly pursuing the ship finally disappears. The settlers are both relieved and confused.

Focus: What did the settlers escape from and how?

Addition: Light: In response to the cold, the Molten Gates of Kaimblash emerge from the cold, the molten lanterns of its earthen legions streaming out to restore the Dream of Fire and Flame. They at first see the enslaved settlers as servants of the Titan and butcher them as any other being that would attempt to end the Dream, but after hasty emissaries from the Augerines, they begin plans to emancipate them from their frozen master.

Focus : Magic
Addition : Light: The Rainbow Alignment, a secret society of Geomancers, Artificers, and Ritualists, forms, seeking to steal the mystic secrets of the Seventh Chorus and turn them against their masters.

  • Light: Its job apparently done, the strange orb that had been relentlessly pursuing the ship finally disappears. The settlers are both relieved and confused.

Alright then, time for another Scene. The question this time is:
What knowledge was in the ADI that cannot be regained? How does the loss of it affect the War of Four Swords & None?

Deep inside a great fortress, a number of people in greatcoats of various colors stand in a hemisphere around a sparking shell of a machine, wires trailing into great data stores- they too, sparking. The magelights are dim, and everyone is solemn. As they silently stare in the old granite room, a door opens behind them. A single soldier marches in, solemn as well. He waits, expectantly.

I would need a General/Officer type. Peasant or commoner characters are banned.

A scraggy bearded man of the recently independent Aevish Freeland looked on solemnly at the great mind that was both god and mother to all those who had come from beyond the Stars, knowing full well that this was the end of a great era.

Yes, the People had been enslaved, used, divided and changed by the world they had come to, but they had always known that they were One, for the great Djinn came constantly to remind them of their origins, and of their salvation.

Where was salvation now, that She Who Recalls was no longer amongst them? What indeed? It terrified him to no end. He glared at the commodore of the Belvor armada. They had been responsible for...this...deicide. This...matricide.

"I would suppose you have something to report, soldier?"

"Aye, sir. The Geomancers have finished their earthen auguries. Their reading of the Worldessence has shown that She Who Recalls cannot be restored... using Artifice. Their reading seems to suggest that a ritual could potentially revive a part of She Who Recalls. I have their full report ready for your examination."

The messenger hands over the Geomancers' report to the scraggly bearded man, or as the messenger knew him, the Honorable Councilman Vargor.

A short bespectacled woman in a grey coat rests in a chair, clutching her head. She is breathing quickly, thinking and trying to comprehend the sheer blow to knowledge.

"Great essence, we must record what has been lost. Do we have any parchment about?"

A clean-cut engineer turns around from the wires he was inspecting.

"Parchment could not hope to record the full volume of information that the Mother houses, madam. Symphonies, great pieces of art, the last artifacts of the World of the Ancestors and the World They Fled. Equations whose meanings we can not even comprehend, engineering designs that we have never been able to construct. Little could be accessed in the time we have left, and even less could be recorded in meaningful fashion within that time."

"There is... one thing we can do, however. We could directly dump the core memory and broadcast it through the Ether. We would never see it again, but there would at least be the hope that somewhere, out there, someone has a viable receiving apparatus, and our history would be found. Perhaps they would even return it to us."

(I've lost track of this game since the beginning where I proposed a start and end. I should probably contribute, but don't count on me being a regular participant for long)
